January 2008
We recently received a generous donation from Independent Concrete Pipe in Mishawaka Indiana, they donated 4 concrete culvets or as we call them fun things for baboons to climb on. The culverts have been installed in the 3/4 acre outside enclosure and will offer the baboons a place to relax. We are close to finishing the smaller outdoor area and also installing the electric fence for the large enclosure. Winter at the sanctuary is never dull as we have many indoor projects to work on,our new office is complete and already being used. We will be finished soon with the baboon building and hope to have our residents moving in soon. Thank you again for your interest in helping us.

We still need to complete the outdoor caging, we raised close to $6,000 at baboonfest that we will use to complete a portion of the caging. We also rescued another baboon, her name is Amelia and she came from Michigan. She is currently living at the Wild Animal Orphanage along with Judy and Sarah. Please check our site often for updates on our progress and fundraising events.

April 2005
We just returned from a trip to Primate Rescue Center in Nicholasville Kentucky, April Truit who is the director offered Peaceable Primate  Sanctuary some cages that can be used for housing sick or injured baboons. These cages will only be used for housing baboons short term. Peaceable Primate Sanctuary would like to thank April and the Primate Rescue Center very much for this generous donation.

November 2004
The installation of the fencing is completed. We are planning on installing the electric, well and septic system in early 2005. We are able to complete these projects because of a generous contribution from Ms. Elizabeth Luster.
We were recently contacted by a lab on the East Coast to accept 2 female baboons. They are willing to keep them in retirement at the lab until we are ready to accept them at our sanctuary.

October 2004
With help from Meredith Bratt we were able to complete the conceptual drawing of the first indoor/outdoor enclosure. This first facility will be able to house between 10-15 baboons and will allow the animals to live in a stable group. The outdoor area will offer the baboons many forms of enrichment, such as a natural substrate and various climbing structures. The estimated cost of building this enclosure is $150,000.

September 2004
With the generous support of Unity of Chicago we are able to start the installation of the 700 feet of fencing that we purchased. Construction will start soon and be completed by the end of October. Natasha one of our volunteers has set up a blog for us,it can be viewed at primatesanctuary.blogspot.com . We are working on raising $150,000 so we can construct our first enclosure. We recently traveled to a sanctuary in Canada called the "Fauna Foundation" to meet a baboon that could be one of our first  at the sanctuary.

May 2004
Our "Baboon Chat" on May 1st at the Donald E. Stephens Conference Center was a big success, with everyone's generous support we were able to raise $ 2,000 for our cause. We also interviewed on several radio stations to promote the event.

January 2004
Peaceable Primate Sanctuary was invited to speak on the
Carol O'Keefe show about the plans for the sanctuary and also the problem of primates as pets. The show will air on the 25th of January 2004 at 5:00 AM on Radio Disney AM1300,ESPN radio 1000 and also 94.7 the zone.

March 2003

In memory of George Rubinstein, devoted friend and sanctuary volunteer, a memorial orchard was designed and planted.  A tree planting has been scheduled for May 17 at the property.

November 2002

Steven Coy has accepted the position of Volunteer Coordinator; monthly volunteer meetings began with successful turnouts.  Fundraising efforts continued with Hazelnut tree fundraiser where donations purchased a tree and recognition plaque.  Trees will be planted at the entrance to the sanctuary.

October 2002

Our sanctuary home has been found in Pulaski, Indiana!  The 38.64-acre parcel has some old growth forest and portions cleared for farmland.  With this great news we published the sanctuarys second issue of Papio Gazette.

March 2002

Meetings began to determine the best home for the sanctuary.  Conceptual drawings for indoor / outdoor housing have also been completed. Indiana farmland seemed to be well suited for our purpose.  Research into Indiana regulations has been completed.  Our search for property began.  Our first newsletter, Papio Gazette, was published and mailed in April.

November 2001

We have received our IRS determination letter indicating our non-profit status is official.  Our fundraising efforts may now include applications to foundations, other charitable organizations and corporate sponsors.  Individual donations are now also recognized for deduction on annual federal income tax returns.  Our first fundraiser raised $1,000 for the sanctuary.

July 2001

We have had several donations in the last weeks. We are thankful for the growing number of people who have generously committed valuable time and resources to our cause and have established a donor page to acknowledge them.

Our nonprofit incorporation designation has been established with the state of Illinois. We are almost finished with necessary paperwork for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS.

Building concepts have been researched and we are working toward a conceptual drawing of a typical enclosure.

The concept "Pennies for Primates" has become our first fundraising effort.

April 2001

We are currently creating our incorporation documents. We are looking for generous individuals willing to donate time during this critical phase. If you have appropriate experience, please email us.
